This is my favorite way to feel
With the help of coaching, I’m developing my capacity to honor and appreciate all my feelings. But I can’t help it: I have a favorite.
My favorite way to feel is “balm”—buzzy yet calm.
For me, buzzy without calm borders on jittery and nervous. Calm without buzzy can be uninspired and boring.
Balm is the sweet spot.
I feel it after a workout.
I feel it during a connected conversation with my partner.
I feel it playing with my dog.
I feel it on wooded hiking trails.
I feel it when I get a new idea for my business.
Balm feels like jumping into a pool on a cold day and then discovering the water is heated. Energy and possibility meet peace and love.
Balm is a balanced blend of “I can create anything!” and “I trust in everything.”
What in your life makes you feel this way? Which activities, places, or people?
If it’s hard to identify things in your present, try looking to the past and future:
What memories conjure a buzzy-calm feeling? Are there aspects of these memories you could recreate in your current life?
What’s something you’re curious about that you suspect might make you feel balm? Is there a step you could take toward trying it out?
I certainly don’t experience balm all the time, or even every day. But knowing it’s available to me, and that there are specific actions I can take to return myself to it, is a powerful force in my life.
So, I have an invitation for you. Fill in the blank:
If I was 10% more committed to creating balm in my life, I would _______________.
Let me know what you come up with.
